The Songnan Country Park is to be developed as an ecological balancing area for the Shanghai metropolitan area and as a recreational area for the city's population. It is to remain an area of intensive agricultural and forestry production. At the same time, however, 450 hectares of building land are to be integrated. The natural and cultural qualities of the landscape are the starting point of the concept. No new landscape will be designed, no "park" will be created, but rather a new cultural landscape in which the use by farmers is in harmonious balance with the characteristics of the landscape and with the needs of those seeking recreation. The aim is to reduce the burden in each location and to improve the qualities, rather than shifting the problems.
